July 12th, 2007

This necklace is two strands attached at the clasp and wrapped together. The large nuggets are a stone called Amazonite, a gemstone that is named after the Amazon River. Amazonite is not however found anywhere near the Amazon River. It is said that Amazonite is a stone that helps with self-expression and communication. The second strand is composed of dyed Mother of Pearl tubes, Citrine and an aqua colored stone called Apatite. The earrings are made with the dyed Mother of Pearl, Citrine and Apatite as well.

Mother of Pearl

July 9th, 2007

This design is made with large circular Mother of Pearl discs hanging from a leather cord with all sterling silver findings. (Can be made with brown or black leather cord)

Mother of Pearl, also known as Nacre (Nay-ker), is found on the inner surface of many mollusk shells like the nautilus pictured to the left. It is deposited to smooth the inside of the shell and protect it from parasitic organisms. Mother of Pearl is the same substance that is deposited around an object to form a pearl.
